Poem: In the Twilight

Posted in life, nature, personal, poetry with tags , , , , , , , , on May 11, 2009 by MidnightSun

In the twilight, I watch and wait

Looking at the sun go down

Thinking of night falling

People going around town

In the sunrise, I yawn and awaken

Watching the sun come up

Seeing the day rising

In the sunset, I start to dream

Love and life

Everything in between

Just Another Birthday

Posted in changes, life, personal, point of view with tags , , , , , , , on May 6, 2009 by MidnightSun

I am turning 22 next wednesday and didn’t know it until my sister reminded me. I’m like, “Oh, that is right.” Am I that content with me just having another birthday that was about to pass me by? Or am I at the age where I don’t have to have a party anymore?

I discovered a grey hair a couple months back and they say that is a sign of wisdom, if that is the case, I need all the wisdom I can get. I am getting older and glad to be getting older but I found myself not making a big deal about it. Is there a certain age you get to where you don’t care how old you get, and that you are glad to be getting older?

Poem: The Power of Mother Nature

Posted in life, nature, poetry, point of view with tags , , , , , , , , on May 5, 2009 by MidnightSun

The ocean

The streams

The sun

The beams

The wind

The breeze

The snow

The freeze

The rain

The shower

The tornado

The power

The hurricane

The eye

The tsunami

The high

The lighting

The striking

The thunder

The frightening

The flowers

The bloom

The leaves

The dirt

The trees

Mother Nature is a breath taker

Mother Nature is a plan breaker

Mother Nature can be beautiful

Mother Nature can be destructive

You don’t fool with Mother Nature

Independence Knows No Age Limit

You never know how of something you really have until you go through it or deal with it. My grandmother moved out and she had boxes and boxes of stuff and still left stuff here. She decided to leave because she felt it was time for a change after my grandfather passing away about 5 years ago. She wanted to be by herself and she found her a new place and moved in this past weekend. She is happy to have her independence and I am happy for her.

Being on your own can come at anytime and it can be liberating. You feel like you are only responsible for you and no one else. It’s a new found freedom that you possess and you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and wherever you want. No one telling you what to do or when to do it. It’s nice to be able to do things when you get ready, not on anyone else’s time frame.

Going Back To My Roots…Literally

Almost a year ago, construction workers came out into our yard and had to dig it up to put down water pipes. My grandfather, who passed away almost five years ago, had a green thumb and kept our yard looking beautiful full of flowers and trees. It took them awhile to dig up the dirt, take out our big trees and 2 of our flowerbeds and completely destroyed our yard and they put grass seed in it but they didn’t replant any of our flowers or plant any new trees.

My mother, who loves to work out in the yard, decided to plant another flower bed full or orange and yellow marigolds and some other flowers in a pentagon shaped flowerbed and me and my sister helped her. I caught the garden bug and decided to plant my roses and grow them myself. We also planted a tree in the yard.

I think it’s important to remember those we love and honor them in some way and I think that this will be the best way to keep our yard pretty and be reminded of the garden we once had.

I hope to continue my grandfather’s legacy in planting these flowers and I hope they grow as beautiful as his did. I’m doing my part in helping the environment and staying green.

Some People Are Never Satisfied

Posted in life, point of view with tags , , , , on May 2, 2009 by MidnightSun

How is that no matter what you do for someone, how you do it, and how often you do it, sometimes they don’t thank you they say “It’s not right” or “It’s not the way I would have done it.” They find fault in what you have done, not the fact that you did it because you love or care about that person. Some people are never satisfied.

Take the time to say thank you to people who do nice things for you. Never take for granted of what they do for you because you never know when you’ll see them again or hear from them.

Are We Defined By Our Qualities?

Posted in life, personal, point of view with tags , , , on April 30, 2009 by MidnightSun

We are all human and we have been born with certain qualities and traits that we develop, whether at a young age or when we are an adult. We can be defined by physical traits as well as personal traits.

There’s something called the “halo effect” and the “horn effect”. The halo effect an extension of an overall impression of a person (or one particular outstanding trait) to influence the total judgment of that person. The effect is to evaluate an individual high on many traits because of a belief that the individual is high on one trait.

The opposite of halo effect is the horn effect. The horn effect whereby a person evaluates another as low on many traits because of a belief that the individual is low on one trait which is assumed to be critical.

Let’s say a person who is physically strong and that is a good trait and there for people assume that you must have other good traits as well. In the reverse, if you aren’t strong as other people, then they will assume that you aren’t good at anything else whether intellectually or work related.

This is how some people think and you can’t judge people based on their qualities and assume that this is how they work or act all the time.

The definition of halo and horn effect were taken from
